Dates back to 18th century France. Prince Maxime d'Aubernay de Bourgogne always wanted to have dinner before his subjects, so he would always go to the dining room first. The original expression used by cheeky residents was "Vous avez ? un maxime," but translated into English many times by the great translators gave us "You have been a Maxime." This has travelled to Britain and over the years evolved into what we have now as "You have done a maxime." Today, this means to eat before your friends or colleagues.
