I first heard this word in Sex and the City (give credit where credit is due) and I felt it should be included on this site. A frenemy is someone you consider a friend, or pretend to be friends with, but is actually an extreme rival. (ED. The portmanteau has been around for several years now, but is a welcome addition to our lexicon. It was added to Wiktionary in October 2005 and to Wikipedia December 2006.
