A foolish American who believes that the Japanese word "otaku" means "fan," especially of "anime" or Japanese animation films. An "otaku" is an obsessed nerd. The word has a very negative connotation: a karate otaku, one who is obsessed with karate but probably couldn't throw a punch to save her life.
