When the cluestick just isn't enough, or repeated cluestick smacks have had no result, one must then use something with a bit more heft. (Yes, I know your definition of "cluestick" mentions a 2x4, but most of the folks I know who use the term "cluestick" imagine it as something like Sister Mary Discipline's ruler.)
