Mostly considered to be a minor player in national politics well into the 2008 campaign for President of the United States (a campaign that started the day after the 2004 election) Huckabee has become a potential contender for a spot on the Republican national ticket. The conventional wisdom is that his surge in the polls is based on personal charm and not on the usual armaments of political success: filthy lucre and political organization.
