An ancient Pagan apple festival originating in Bradford, Yorkshire, Northern England. It is traditionally held on the night of the first full moon in November. It is accompanied with much feasting on apple-based dishes, much drinking of cider and, most importantly, the Swelding Fire, on which the Swelding Apple is burned to offer thanks to the great orchard Goddess Pomona for the recent harvest and ask for a peaceful winter and a plentiful harvest next year. Records in the county archive in Skipton show that the festival has been held in the town every year since 1145.
